TikTok Users Are Bragging About Aborting Their Sons — And 434,000 People Liked It

A TikTok account called "Kenna daisy" posted a video celebrating her abortion with a specific timestamp: "the moment I found out it was a boy." A second clip marked "the moment I booked that appointment." The post collected 434,000 likes.

The comments were worse than the video.

"I got an abortion [with] each boy. Told my husband I had a miscarriage," one user wrote. Another: "No fr [for real] I'm either having a girl or an abortion." These weren't trolls buried at the bottom of a thread. They were top comments, liked and amplified by thousands of other users on a platform with an algorithm that rewards engagement — and engagement was exactly what this content got.

According to the United Nations Population Fund, an estimated 142 million girls are "missing" worldwide due to sex-selective abortion. In China alone, the practice skewed the ratio to 115.88 boys per 100 girls by 2014, leaving 33 million more men than women in the country.

That was supposed to be the cautionary tale. The global example of what happens when a culture decides one sex is disposable. The American left spent years citing those numbers to condemn the practice — when it was girls being eliminated.

Now the target is boys, and the tone has shifted from condemnation to celebration.

The Survey Center on American Life published data in September showing that 66 percent of young Democratic women believe women's challenges stem from men's behavior. Not from policy. Not from economics. From men, as a category. That's the soil this grows in. An entire political demographic has been marinated in the idea that masculinity itself is the problem, and some of them are now filming the logical conclusion and posting it for likes.

Planned Parenthood has not commented on the trend. They won't. The organizational position has always been that the reason for an abortion is irrelevant — it's a private medical decision. That framework held together when the reasons were economic hardship or health complications. It gets harder to maintain when the reason is posted publicly with a laughing emoji and the reason is "it was a boy."

The UN spent decades documenting what sex-selective abortion did to entire civilizations. China's 33 million surplus men created a demographic crisis the country still hasn't solved — housing markets, marriage markets, labor markets, all warped by the imbalance.

Four hundred thirty-four thousand likes. On a video about terminating a pregnancy because of the child's sex. Posted not in shame, not in anguish, not even in ambivalence — in celebration, with a soundtrack.

The algorithm served it to millions more.
