Liberal Elites Have Never Been More Out-Of-Touch And This Proves It

Democrat former New York state Senator Alessandra Biaggi has done it again—this time by dismissing the very real struggles of New Yorkers grappling with the city’s new congestion toll. The toll, a brainchild of Democrats who never met a tax they didn’t like, charges $9 for vehicles entering Manhattan south of 60th Street during peak hours. Off-peak drivers get a “discount” with a $2.25 toll. Apparently, the geniuses behind this scheme think that squeezing more money out of hardworking citizens will somehow fix traffic congestion and improve air quality.

The toll, which went live on January 5, 2025, uses electronic billing through E-ZPass or license plate recognition. While a few routes, like the FDR Drive and West Side Highway, are exempt as long as drivers don’t exit onto city streets, the reality is clear: if you’re trying to live, work, or just exist in Manhattan, prepare to pay up.

One New Yorker took to social media to vent his frustration about how this new toll is crushing his budget. And what did Alessandra Biaggi do? Did she offer a shred of empathy or understanding? Of course not. Instead, she gave the man a digital shrug, essentially telling him to “get over it.” Nothing says “man of the people” quite like sneering at someone struggling under the weight of Bidenomics.

Naturally, Biaggi’s out-of-touch response sparked an online firestorm. Even in a city as blue as New York, people aren’t thrilled about being lectured by elites who are probably chauffeured around town in taxpayer-funded vehicles. This is the Democrats’ America: they create a financial burden, call it progress, and then berate anyone who dares to complain.

The truth is, this congestion toll isn’t about traffic or air quality; it’s about revenue. It’s a cash grab disguised as climate activism, and New Yorkers are the ones paying the price. Democrats like Biaggi are quick to impose costs on others while insulating themselves from the consequences. Meanwhile, residents already grappling with soaring rent, food prices, and energy bills now face yet another financial hurdle.

This is why people are flocking to red states. In places where conservative leadership prioritizes freedom and fiscal responsibility, families aren’t punished for simply driving to work. Democrats can keep their tolls, taxes, and lectures. The rest of America will keep its common sense.
