Wealthy Hollywood backers with strong Democratic aspirations are reportedly lining up to support Vice President Kamala Harris in a 2024 presidential contest.
According to Deadline, one such devoted supporter, who requested to remain anonymous, informed the outlet that checkbooks are being cashed out to send her money on her way:
“Everyone I talk to says I’m more driven and eager than I’ve been in months. It appears that Harris will be the one, which is fantastic because everyone knows and likes her.”
According to Breitbart News, Harris already has a sizable following of people who have come out in the 24 hours since President Joe Biden announced his resignation, with Hollywood celebrities jumping on board.
Prominent figures like Jon Cryer, Ben Stiller, Bette Midler, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert De Niro offered their opinions, and others like Sharon Stone—who declared she would relocate to Europe in the event that former President Donald Trump wins again—will be keenly observing.
On Sunday afternoon, Biden declared he was giving up on running for reelection.
“It is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step aside and to focus completely on performing my obligations as President for the duration of my term, even though it has been my desire to seek re-election,” he stated in a prepared statement.
Biden withdrew from the 2024 contest, but he hasn’t said that he will step down before his replacement takes office in January 2025.
For her part, Harris’s Hollywood backing offers no assurances other than financial flow.
In order to officially win the nomination, the 59-year-old must win over 4,700 Democratic convention delegates, including those who have committed to Biden, elected officials, past presidents, and other party veterans known as superdelegates.
Chicago will host the Democratic National Convention from August 19–22.
