Sean “Diddy” Combs, the hip-hop mogul who famously proclaimed it’s “All About the Benjamins,” is now more about all about the courtroom, as his lawyers scramble to lock down a gag order. Why? Because a key witness has come forward claiming to possess some highly incriminating videos of the rapper—allegedly including footage of him involved in shocking crimes. Combs’ attorneys are taking action, filing an urgent request to the judge to restrict any further comments from witnesses and their counsel, calling it an attempt to “protect Mr. Combs’ right to a fair trial and the integrity of the grand jury proceedings.”
Combs’ attorneys, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, laid it all out in a letter to the judge this past Sunday. They’re asking for an immediate order to silence the chatter of potential witnesses and their lawyers, claiming that public statements are creating an atmosphere of “imminent harm.” They say these claims are spreading like wildfire, fueling a media circus that’s casting Combs in the worst light possible—before he even gets a day in court.
The letter specifically calls out Courtney Burgess, a man who recently testified to the grand jury and is making headlines with claims of possessing 11 flash drives containing what he says are sex tapes involving Combs and several celebrities, including some allegedly underage. Burgess also claims that these videos were handed over to him by Combs’ ex, Kim Porter, before her passing in 2018.
Burgess has made the rounds, appearing on NewsNation’s “Banfield” to share his allegations, including that the tapes feature not only celebrities under the influence but also minors as victims. Combs’ legal team insists these accusations are baseless, calling them “false and outrageous,” and aimed at undermining the judicial process. Combs, of course, has denied all allegations, pleading not guilty to charges ranging from sex trafficking to racketeering, with his trial set for May 5.
While Combs’ legal team fights to muzzle the media narrative, prosecutors have already objected to a gag order, partly on the grounds that civil litigants in cases against Combs aren’t even within the criminal court’s reach. Meanwhile, allegations continue to mount, with Combs facing multiple lawsuits alleging heinous crimes, which he vehemently denies.
This case isn’t just a legal battle for Combs; it’s also a PR nightmare. And while Combs’ lawyers fight tooth and nail to silence witnesses, it seems that every effort to keep things under wraps only fuels more media frenzy.
