The district administrator of a rural Ohio school district announced that each of the district’s four schools will soon have at least one armed staff member.
In a recent interview with the Marion Star, Superintendent Adam Wickham from the River Valley Community School District located in Caledonia, Ohio, roughly an hour north of Columbus, verified the new regulation.
“Our schools won’t be unguarded targets anymore,” according to Wickham. “Most active shooter incidents take place in places that are ‘gun-free zones’ or have only basic safety precautions in place. We want to make sure that our schools won’t be easy prey.”
In a distant community like Caledonia, according to Wickham, where law enforcement may not have easy access in the case of an active shooter, as occurred in Parkland, Florida; Uvalde, Texas; and the most recent, Nashville, Tennessee, armed staff members at every school are essential.
“In the case of an active shooter, reaction times might frequently be minutes away due to the rural nature of the neighborhood,” according to Wickham. “The usage of armed personnel in our facilities may be able to save lives by enabling a quicker reaction to the threat.”
Every school within the district — two primary schools, a middle school, and a high school — will be equipped with at least one armed teacher or employee in order to “make sure that our staff and students can go home safely to their families and loved ones at the end of every day,” according to Wickham. According to a new state legislation, selected instructors and employees must first complete 24 hours of weapons training before being allowed to carry a gun on a River Valley campus.
A great Idea whose time has come. Follow a good example.Protect the kids.
Totally agree with that school super. Good job sir!
Great! Every school in America needs to be safe. Having armed individuals in the school will certainly deter crime in the school systems
I agree wholeheartedly provided those who are armed also undergo regular psychiatric evals. There is enough pressure on teachers and staff to teach and accelerated stress leads to frustration, anger, depression, and thoughts (God forbid) suicidal thoughts. Most suicides are singular in nature, however, there are cowards who believe they should not “go out alone” and will target those they blame for their personal inability to deal with the stress and thoughts in a positive way. Once the issue of safety is addressed and secured then we can focus on teaching our children the basics to make them free-thinking, creative, and productive members of society.
Why won’t the democrats want a armed guards at schools ??? I mean think about that for a minute. Why do they fight to stop armed guards. What the hell could they say is a good reason ??? It tells me they want your kid’s killed in your schools. You can bet ya sweet azz they have some armed guards at their kids schools. They have armed guards protecting them, so why won’t they do the same for their kids. The sad part is we pay for them with our tax dollars. Arm your schools against nut jobs and freaks in drag queen shows or they will get your kids.
