The Democratic Socialists of America have officially launched a paramilitary wing called the "Red Rabbits Security Commission," and they're training members in armed self-defense, blocking intersections, and preparing for what they openly describe as a "national uprising against federal agents and police brutality." But sure, grandma who walked through the Capitol on January 6th is the real domestic terrorist.
These are the same people who spent five years shrieking that MAGA hats were basically Klan hoods, and now they're out here running militia training camps in six cities.
The Red Rabbits were formally launched at the DSA's 2025 national convention, and according to a report by City Journal, the group has organized chapters with active trainers in Minnesota, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Tucson, Austin, and Portland. Because of course Portland made the list. The group's stated training curriculum covers five core security skills: "de-escalation, Stop the Bleed, firearm safety, unarmed self-defense, and protest marshalling." That's a fancy way of saying they're teaching people how to fight cops and block traffic.
Before the Red Rabbits, DSA members had floated an even more charming idea — a "National Vigilance Committee." They swapped the name, but the intent stayed the same: build organized muscle that can confront what they call "fascists" in the streets.
Let's be real about what we're looking at here. This is an organization whose official platform calls for abolishing the United States Senate, replacing the presidency and the Supreme Court, and eliminating the Electoral College. That's not reform. That's revolution. And now they've got a paramilitary unit to back it up.
The group claims to train members to confront "fascists" with umbrellas — which sounds almost cute until you remember that their definition of "fascist" includes anyone who voted for Donald Trump. That's about 77 million Americans, by the way.
Here's what kills me. We spent years listening to Congressional hearings, prime-time specials, and crying Capitol Police officers telling us that the mere existence of right-leaning protest groups was a threat to democracy itself. The FBI infiltrated parent groups at school board meetings. They surveilled Catholic churches. They labeled the Betsy Ross flag an extremist symbol.
But an actual socialist organization — one that openly models itself on revolutionary tactics and trains people in armed combat — gets to operate in broad daylight with zero pushback from the DOJ, zero congressional inquiries, and zero breathless CNN panels.
The name "Red Rabbits" supposedly comes from the novel Watership Down, not Mao's Red Guard. Sure. And Antifa is just an idea, not an organization. We've heard that one before.
If a single MAGA group announced it was training members in firearms and "community defense" across six American cities, every three-letter agency in Washington would have boots on the ground by morning. But slap a socialist rose on it and suddenly it's grassroots activism.
Rules for thee, militias for me.
