The Milford Regional Medical Center in Massachusetts has sparked outrage with its new policy. Their Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Peter Smulowitz, announced a draconian set of rules policing patient and visitor speech and behavior. This is a blatant overreach, dictating what people can say and how they can act.
This isn’t just about maintaining a respectful environment. It’s a direct assault on free speech and common sense. Dr. Smulowitz lists a range of “offenses” that could get you kicked out of the hospital – making comments about race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or other personal traits, or refusing to see a doctor because of these traits. Even your body language and tone of voice are under scrutiny! And if you step out of line? You’ll have to explain yourself before they decide your fate.
This is absurd. Hospitals are for healing, not for policing speech. What happened to treating patients based on their medical needs, not their political correctness? Since when did hospitals start imitating Orwellian thought police?
Republican Rep. Dr. Greg Murphy is right to slam this policy. It’s a disgrace, mocking the Hippocratic Oath. Instead of focusing on medical care, Milford Regional is more concerned with whether someone’s words might hurt feelings.
This policy sets a dangerous precedent. If you’re not woke enough, does that mean you don’t deserve medical care? What’s next? Denying treatment based on political beliefs? This is America, not a totalitarian state. Our medical institutions should know better than to succumb to this leftist, feel-good nonsense. It’s high time we called out this madness and demanded that hospitals stick to medicine and leave the social engineering to the politicians.
The Milford Regional Medical Center’s policy is an alarming sign of how far the tentacles of political correctness have reached. It’s a stark reminder that we need to stand against this encroachment on our basic freedoms, even in places like hospitals, where care and compassion should be the only priorities.
