House Republicans are taking a sledgehammer to one of the left’s most ridiculous pet projects—slavery reparations—with a new bill that would cut off federal funding to any state or city that dares to implement such policies.
Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX) introduced the No Bailouts for Reparations Act on Friday, calling the entire idea a shameless money grab and a “milking of the U.S. taxpayer” for the benefit of a narrow group of people.
Babin isn’t mincing words. “No American taxpayer should be on the hook to pay reparations to individuals for something that happened over 150 years ago,” he told Fox News Digital.
This move comes as Washington, D.C., is set to launch its own reparations task force after the Democrat-controlled city council approved funding for it last year. Now, Republicans are stepping up to say enough is enough.
Reparations: The Left’s Never-Ending Grift
Reparations have long been a left-wing fantasy pushed by radicals who believe modern taxpayers should fork over cash for something that no living American had any part in. It’s been championed by far-left Democrats like Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who recently reintroduced legislation to “examine the lasting legacy of slavery” and develop proposals for payouts.
Let’s be real: this has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with the progressive obsession with racial grievance politics. It’s a blank check for victimhood, wrapped in “equity” and tied with a bow of taxpayer-funded guilt.
As Babin put it, America fought a war over slavery, and it’s been over for 150 years. Instead of wasting money on race-based handouts, Babin argues, Congress should focus on policies that promote economic opportunity for all Americans—regardless of ancestry.
Trump and Republicans Stand Firm
President Trump has made it clear: reparations aren’t happening. In a 2019 interview with The Hill, Trump was blunt, saying: “I don’t see it happening.” Now, with Republicans controlling Congress and the White House, this leftist pipe dream is about to crash and burn.
House Republicans are now rallying behind Babin’s bill, which will ensure no city, state, or local government gets federal dollars if they go forward with reparations schemes.
The Bottom Line
Democrats want to dole out billions in taxpayer money based on ancestry and historical grievance, while conservatives are focused on actual solutions that help all Americans prosper.
The GOP is sending a message loud and clear: if your city or state wants to go full woke and fund reparations, don’t expect hardworking American taxpayers to foot the bill.
